A bunk bed is a special type of bed preferred from ages. It is a bed in which one bed is stacked on top of the other. Its special design allows two people to simultaneously sleep in the same room, one top of another while maximizing the available floor space area. This type of bed is used to economize the floor area.
Bunk beds normally have four poles supporting at each corner of the bed. A ladder is used to get to the upper bed, though taller children often use other more creative method of climbing into them.

Standard Bunk Bed: This bunk bed has two identical mattresses stacked one directly over the other.
Twin Over Full Bunk Bed: Twin over full is arranged as a standard bunk bed except one difference. The bottom mattress is a full sized one and the upper one is a twin sized one.
Futon Bunk: This is also arranged in the standard manner with the exception that the lower bunk is a Western style futon and not a mattress.
L- Shaped Bunk Bed: The L-shape staggers the beds in such a manner that when viewed from above the beds form an L. This shape also helps in creating an alcove where a desk can be placed. In the recent years this style is gaining prominence in the children.s rooms as it creates a more relaxed appearance.
Loft Bed: This type of bed denotes a bunk bed which has only the top bunk, leaving the space underneath empty. This space can be utilized by making it a work area. You could also keep a chest of drawers or any other utility furniture there. Thus, loft beds are ideal in places which have small areas as it utilizes the entire vertical area which would otherwise have been left unused.
These bunk beds are popular medium of sleeping in lots of economically spaced areas like ships, garrisons, dormitories, hostels, and children rooms.
Ships are one of the most common users of bunk heads. Its small compact cabins are supplied with bunk beds for the crews to sleep in. These crews are working daylong in the entire ship and go to their cabins just to sleep. So putting bunk beds in the cabins is a good idea as it accommodates more crew and increases available space in the ship. Also, the Garrisons also prefer bunk beds as the soldiers go into their cabins just to sleep.

Children are also love to sleep in a bunk bed. For them bunk bed itself is a playground, deploying various methods to climb into it (specially the upper bunk). Don.t forget, the upper bunk is generally surrounded by a railing to make the sleeping safer. Children under six years are mostly not recommended for sleeping on the upper bunk.
